【The Cijin Area】

【旗津】

旗津位於高雄市西南端，為一呈現西北—東南走向的狹長小島。早期的旗津，稱為「旗後」，指的是位居旗山之後的部落而言。後來，在清雍正4年（西元1726年），一位荷蘭傳教士所編纂的台灣地圖中，被稱為「漢德那斯」（Hanternas）。咸豐10年（西元1860年）英法聯軍之役，簽下了北京條約，旗津因其良好的地理位置，成為通商口岸。幾年之後，同治2年（西元1863年），旗後地區正式開市，百業鼎盛，熱鬧非凡，是高雄開發最早的地區。在民國82年（1993）3月，高雄市政府更斥資五百多億元，興建旗津海岸公園，每年遊客如織，為一觀光休憩的好去處。往旗津有兩種選擇，一是搭乘渡船，一是驅車穿過過港隧道。旗津雖小，卻有多樣吸引人的去處，在廟前路的天后宮，有三百年歷史，是三級古蹟；身著唐裝的三輪車伕，是島上另一個觀光焦點；在遊客飽覽旗津風景名勝後，可別錯過遐爾聞名的旗津海產，旗津老街上，綿延清一色海產店，價廉味美，各式海鮮種類之多絕對可以滿足老饕的需要，露天下大快朵頤，十分暢快。

【Sizihwan View Watching Area】

Sizihwan(also called Sizih Bay) is perched on the sea at the western edge of Kaohsiung City, just southwest of Mt. Longevity, with the Qijin Peninsuna stretching southward. Its main feature is a swimming beach known for its clear blue water, the beauty of its sunsets, and its natural reef. The atmosphere and the scenery here change from morning to night; each time of the day has its special attraction, but the brilliant colors of the sunset are unparalleled in their beauty. The long breakwater here is the landmark of Sizih Bay, and basking in the sea breeze on the breakwater gives the most pleasant and comfortable sensation imaginable. The vessels both large and small scattered like stars on the surface of the sea are entertained by the intermittent sound of foghorns; and as the day darkens and the air of romance deepens, pairs of lovers stroll along the breakwater listening to the waves and watching the lights of fishing boats on the sea. From the parking lot at the entrance to the bay you can also get a good view of Kaohsiung Harbor. National Sun Yat-sen University is situated within the Sizih Bay Scenic Area, adding a bit more of a cultural flavor; here you will also find, in addition to the swimming beach, a salt-water aquarium, Seaside Park, and Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall. The swimming beach has fine, soft sand and a grove of stately coconut palms, filling the area with the flavor of the South Seas. In the summer this is a perfect place for enjoying the water, playing beach volleyball, and sunbathing, and in peak seasons the crowds are dense and the activities intense. Lounging under a palm tree and basking in the soft cool breeze as the sun goes down is an experience that lifts you out of the mundane world.

【西子灣】

西子灣，位於高雄市的西側，北倚萬壽山，南臨旗津半島，是一處以天然礁石、夕照美景與碧海藍天而聞名遐邇的港灣。在清初，名為「洋路灣」、「洋子灣」，後有文學家以「斜陽樵唱」為其賦詩，又名為「斜灣」，在閩南語的諧音引申下（斜仔灣），就演變成今日的「西子灣」。距市中心車程約20分鐘，依山臨海，風景宜人，每當夜幕低垂，將大海點綴的瑰麗可人，漁船燈火閃爍其間;西子灣的夕陽是高雄八景之一，海天一色的美景，美不勝收，黃昏時分，常可見一對對情侶在此互道情愫，更有詩情畫意的情境。

【British Consulate at Takao】

The former Ching means the Ching Dynasty while Taka is the ancient name of Kaohsiung.

The consulate was built in 1865 with more than a hundred years of history. It is now the most antique western building preserved in Taiwan, which is listed as the second-class historic spot. It was the western building designed by a British engineer and built by Chinese craftsmen, and it is the most meaningful ancient building of Chinese modern history with graceful and elegant proportion. Semicircle arches are rhythmically arranged in order with considerably rhyming. At the corner, the circle arch is smaller and the wall pillar is bigger, which has reinforced function in dynamics. It is the Baroque typed building of the Renaissance era. It emphasizes on the stylish regular pattern and its hollow pattern railings were built with excellent bricks. Harmonious sense of beauty is shown at every turn. Among the existing western style buildings in Taiwan, it provides an excellent example of technique and style and that possesses the value of historical architecture study and conservation value. The building brick and mortar used all continue using the traditional method of Fukien and Taiwan. Some parts are even filled with clay and soil, while wooden truss is built with complete western style. It is the building that has double function, administrative and residencial function, and its style also lies in between them. It is the portrayal illustration of modern Chinese and Western cultural communication, and also the first formal consulate built by foreigners in Taiwan. The occurrence of consulate opened up the development of western architecture for Taiwan in the future.

【打狗英國領事館】

二級古蹟打狗英國領事館，建於1865年至今已有140年歷史，地理位置特殊，座落在海天一色的西子灣山上，可屬美景天成。坐靠打鼓山、前扼高雄港進出之大船、右看西子灣日落、左抱高雄市港全景。

本館為後文藝復興時代巴洛克式建築風格，花欄石雕、圓拱設計，她見證了一個半世紀的歷史，經整修後，風華再現，英領風騷；館內亦蘊藏豐富的藝術臻品，使其成為內外兼美的古蹟領事館。

【Love River】

Almost all big cities have a beautiful river passed by, this is specially true in Kaohsiung. Love River lies across Kaohsiung for times of sunrises and sunsets. Love River, known as Ta Kou (Da Gou) River in Ching (Qing) Dynasty, was renamed by Japanese as Takao River. The river was also called Kaohsiung Canal. After restoration of Taiwan, the riverbanks were beautified with greenery works and developed to be park areas, decorated with pillars chained with iron rope. The area becomes a romantic place for lovers to date with each other, therefore, the river was reputed as Love River. In order to celebrate his dear Madam Chiang's birthday, the late president Chiang Kai-Shek named it Jen Ai (Ren Ai) River, however, local people are still used to call it Love River. The Love River has been a dirty river with odorous smell due to pollution of industrial and house drainage. It was ironically regarded as the most ugly landmark of Kaohsiung. Following years pollution control, the River rebuilds its beauty, with egrets flying over and fishes playing waves. On the banks, a number of parks and green lands were developed and constructed with a very long bicycle way. You may wander relaxedly on the pathways of the banks, admiring the pleasant landscape and enjoying the gentle touch of breeze.

【愛河】

愛河發源於高雄縣仁武鄉，流經高雄市區，為高雄主要河川之一，全長約16.4公里，猶如城市的母親之河。下游河岸整治而成河濱公園，是市區內散步休憩的好去處，也是端午節划龍舟與元宵節燈會的舞台。過去由於工業污染與都市廢水排放不當，使得愛河因污染嚴重而惡名昭彰，但近年來經政府努力整治，並陸續在河岸兩旁進行綠化，闢建休息設施方使愛河的浪漫風華得以重現。
